A Morning on the Homestead

When: Saturday October 3, 2015

Time: 10am to 1pm

Cost: $30.00 plus HST

Ages: 5 to 8 years of age

Workshop Facilitator: Kim Corrigan

Your children will enjoy a morning on our land, wandering, exploring and enjoying nature. We will learn about pine trees and their needles, harvesting needles to make a pine needle tea. Together we will gather wood for a fire and then cook our morning snack (bannock) over the fire. We will finish our time together with a craft and then enjoy a little free play before heading home.

A Morning on the Homestead

When: Saturday October 17, 2015

Time: 10am to 12:30pm

Ages: 3 to 4 years of age, with a caregiver

You and your child(ren) will enjoy a morning on our land, wandering, exploring and enjoying nature. Together we will enjoy a short circle time, and I will share the story of Stone Soup. Each child will bring a vegan ingredient to be added to a stone soup that we will make together over an open fire. While the soup cooks we will have fun with a nature craft, and then enjoy our stone soup around the fire. We will finish the morning with a little free play before heading home.

Afternoon Tea and Handwork for Children

When: Saturday January 9, 2016

Time: 1:30pm to 4pm

Cost: $25.00 plus HST

Ages: 5 to 8 years of age

Workshop Facilitator: Kim Corrigan

Your children will enjoy an afternoon of handwork activities, including knitting and weaving, followed by afternoon tea. Herbal teas, grown on our land, will be enjoyed with local honey or maple syrup, and organic, gluten-free snacks will be shared. We will finish our time together with a little free play outside before heading home.

All supplies needed for the workshop will be provided.

Let's Make Plant Medicine

When: Saturday January 16, 2016

Time: 10am to 1pm

Cost: $55.00 plus HST

Join Kim for this interactive workshop where we will make a healing salve, created with organic herbs, grown on our land, elderberry syrup, and a herbal multivitamin tea. All of these plant medicines can be enjoyed by the entire family.

Participants will take part in the making of all medicines and take home 50mL of healing salve, 250mL of elderberry syrup, and 1L of herbal multivitamin tea.

A Morning on the Homestead

We will take a walk in the woods, searching for animal tracks in the snow, and if we find some, will follow them to see how much we can learn about the animal and what it was doing. Back at the homestead, we will melt beeswax and make candles in the snow before enjoying a healthy, organic snack. We will finish our time together with a little free play before heading home.

Let's Make Soap

Let's play in the kitchen with some play silks and dye. Your children will join me in the kitchen as we work to transform white play silks into a variety of fun, bright colours. Children will take part in the entire process and will go home with two play silks.

Lotions and Potions Workshop for Young Girls

When: Saturday April 16, 2016

Kim is excited to offer this workshop for the first time, a Lotions and Potions class for young girls. Together we will make soap, tinted lip balm and body butter. Each participant will go home with a bar of soap, a .25oz container of tinted lip balm and a 125mL container of body butter, as well as recipes to make all the products at home. All products are made with natural, organic ingredients that are safe for the skin.

Let's Making Something Special for Mom

When: Saturday April 30, 2016

Children will join Kim in a a fun crafting session for mom. Together we will create handmade gifts for Mother's Day that children will take home to share with mom on her special day. Gifts will be made, cards created and everything wrapped and ready to give. It promises to be a fun morning.

Kids Herbal and Wild Foods Club

When: Saturday's in June (June 4, 11, 18 and 25)

Time: 9am to 10:30am

Cost: $70.00 plus HST (includes all four sessions and all materials)

Fun, exciting and hands-on sessions for children. Together we will explore, tend and harvest herbs from the garden, and we will explore and harvest wild foods from the woods. Throughout the four weeks children will learn basic plant identification, enjoy herbs and wild foods in a variety of ways (think smoothies and sun tea), keep a herbal and wild foods journal, make a plant press, and make simple herbal remedies to take home.

It promises to be a fun-filled four weeks.

Summer Camp 2016

Kim is excited to once again offer summer camp at Life at Nature's Pace. Camp will run throughout the month of July, on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Our days will be spent outside, connecting with nature in a variety of ways, including nature walks, keeping a nature journal, crafting and playing.

Let's Put Some Food By

When: Sundays throughout the summer (May 29, July 10, July 24, August 21, September 18)

Time:11am to 2pm

Cost: $160.00 plus HST (includes all sessions, handouts, materials and food for preservation)

Join Kim for this hands-on, interactive workshop series. Over the five sessions we will discuss food preservation methods, and work together to can, ferment, dehydrate, roast and store our summer harvests for the long winter ahead. Whether you grow your own food, or buy from local farmers, come on out and learn how to enjoy local food all year long.

Session 1 – May 29

Introduction to Food Preservation

During this session we will learn about different methods for preserving food in detail, and we will discuss the pros and cons of each method, and which method is best for a variety of foods.

Session 2 – July 10

Canning and Dehydrating

During this hands-on session we will work together to make a batch of jam, can dilly beans and dehydrate greens. We will also discuss the foods currently being harvested in our area and the best ways to preserve them.

Session 3 - July 24

Canning and Fermentation

During this hands-on session we will work together to can gingery pickled beets and ferment cucumbers. We will also discuss the foods currently being harvested in our area and the best ways to preserve them.

Session 4 – August 21

Roasting, Fermentation and Dehydrating

During this hands-on session we will work together to roast tomatoes, make sauerkraut, and dehydrate fruit into fruit leathers. We will also discuss the foods currently being harvested in our area and the best ways to preserve them.

Session 5 – September 18

Cold Storage

During this session we will discuss cold storage of root vegetables and finish with a question-and-answer session before ending our workshop series.

*****Please note: While my hope is that we will be able to preserve the foods I have listed above, there are a variety of factors that can affect food crops. If, for whatever reason a particular food is not available, I will find a suitable alternative.

Mala Making Workshop

Mala necklaces are a set of 108 (plus 1) beads that have traditionally been used in prayer or meditation. Malas are also worn as a simple reminder of the intention you have set for yourself. 

 Join Stacey in setting your intention and making your very own handknotted mala.

Each participant will leave with their very own 108 + 1 bead mala necklace created of gemstones chosen by you.

Let's explore in the forest, and have a ton of fun doing so. Kim will take your kiddos into the forest for exploration and wandering. We will soak up the bird calls, identify plants and trees, look for animal prints and hopefully follow an animal trail or two. We will work on our awareness skills, develop a respect for nature, and deepen our connection to the earth.

Summer Camp for Girls

A new, exciting camp, just for girls. We will hike, craft, create, play, build fires, gather and chat, laugh, and make new friends. Three full days of girl power! This camp is geared toward girls, age 7 to 10. We will enjoy many different crafts, make jam, enjoy Mother Nature, work together to create a large nature weaving, build new connections and more.

Each girl will bring their own lunch and snacks for the day.
